10 things YOU can do to get America back


  1. Pray – Ask God to guide our leaders, or to get them out of the way so others more fit to do so can lead in their place.
  2. Get Information – This nation cannot be saved in or from its own ignorance. If you don’t know a politician’s stand on important issues, you shouldn’t be supporting that politician. Get concrete answers to answers of critical import to you before sending him/her money…or giving your vote.
  3. Vote – There are legitimate concerns afoot that voting doesn’t change anything. But if you throw away your vote, you also throw away any right to complain. Vote. Vote in the primaries especially so you have a shot at getting the candidate you want in the general election. Even if it feels like it’s useless. Just vote.
  4. Protest – If/when you find your politician didn’t honor the vote you gave him/her, and repeated, cordial letters and phone calls accomplish nothing, then get out and protest. Conservatives are the new hippies (except we take showers and we don’t litter the venue). Oh, and please, no matter how angry you are or how good some abrasive or downright bigoted zinger might seem, no signs with “God hates f__gs” and other nasty or racist epithets. We’ll let the leftists and anarchists do that garbage in their feeble attempts at infiltrating and discrediting us so we can call them out on it legitimately. We want to emulate, not immolate, the character and dignity we attribute to the great ones who founded our nation.
  5. Talk to a friend or neighbor about politics – Gone should be the notion that politics and polite company don’t mix. Don’t beat them over the head with anything, but do find out what they believe. Then, just ask, politely, why they believe that. Present facts as questions, such as, “Would it change your belief or opinion if I told you that __________?”. Don’t revile or “bash”. Just make sure you have your facts vetted with sources (two, at least) and let the facts do the convincing (or not). Offer to give them your sources. This goes along with…
  6. Read – You can’t do anything intelligently–talking with friends about politics, voting, protesting–unless you read a variety of books, newspapers, magazines, and blog articles on the issue(s) you protest. And, take some time to internalize, even memorize, key points and passages. I can’t barely express how sad it is to see a freedom-loving American (finally) get airtime with a reporter and not be able to quote relevant passages from classics or from great leaders. Usually it comes out as the laudable and emotional, but ultimately unfulfilling “God bless the USA and d@$n the politicians!”. That doesn’t go very far towards improving our image and actually plays into the hands of the self-proclaimed intelligentsia who use such sound bites to discredit us. Read so you can talk in useful and clear sound bites if you ever get the chance to have your face on TV. Make an elevator pitch of your personal platform and be ready to give it at any moment. Information is the bayonet at the end of the figurative musket of this restoration.
  7. Take your kids out of public school – Most Americans haven’t yet awakened to the power that removing their kids from public school will have both as a political tool and as a way of reversing the decades-long slide of “dumbing down” that has happened in this country. This is not meant as a sleight to hard-working teachers who do the best they can in sometimes impossible circumstance. It’s an indictment of the system as a whole. When you home school, charter school, or religious school your kids, you’re telling the political class just where they can put their plans to brainwash kids on so-called “social justice” issues, environmental claptrap, and other socially liberal poppycock. By “other”-schooling, you’ll be raising up a generation who will be able to challenge the emotional platforms of statists on rational, substantive grounds. Even if you remove your children from public school and they do absolutely nothing but go outside and play and work and experience the world on its own terms, your kids will be miles ahead of the codified, sterile, purposeless, systemic, combative, artificial environment of public school. Combine lots of exploration time with honest-to-goodness classical dialectic training and you’ll have smarter, well-balanced, more intelligent kids who can think critically and articulate what they know.
  8. Read the Constitution – This just goes without saying. You can’t save a country if you don’t know anything about its foundational document and how it applies to you directly.
  9. Read the Declaration of Independence – Nay, internalize it. Memorize the following passage. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, —That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
  10. Sign the Contract From AmericaThe impressive array of co-sponsors from all angles of the Conservative and Tea Party movements should be enough to convince you that this is the kind of “Big Tent” the GOP could only dream of if it could get its snout out of the entitlement trough long enough to bring real conservatism back to life. Again, I say, sign it. Even if, in the worst case scenario, it tanks and we all go to our concentration camp holding cells for signing it, you and your children will know that, at our nation’s most pivotal time, you stood for what you believed in. I only wish it were an actual, physical document so we could all sign it in VERY LARGE LETTERS.
