Every election cycle, I keep seeing the Equal Rights Amendment coming up as an issue in all the voter guides on various issues.
Equal Rights Amendment — ratifies the federal ERA thus eliminating all gender-based distinctions (widows collecting husband’s social security, gender-exclusive schools and organizations such as Boy Scouts, would usher in same-sex marriage, would remove restrictions on all abortion procedures and would require young women to register for the selective service). (HJRCA 3 – 2009)
That’s it in a nutshell. Pun quite intended.
Who are the seriously deranged people who think this is a good idea? There is so much bad policy and unconstitutionality to this, I don’t even know where to begin by picking it apart. It’s like it was written by a bunch of 13 year olds working on a middle school civics project.
Wait, maybe it was and it’s some leftist teacher’s twisted project to get these students’ “legislation” past the voters.
*does some research*
No, I was wrong about the teachers and the students. Apparently I was right about the leftist part, though.
How about this for an amendment? Anyone who pushes the Equal Rights Amendment on the voters again gets a Wet Willie–in both ears, an atomic wedgie, and their eyebrows shaved. Oh, and a permanent injunction from the State supreme court from ever holding office again.
I mean, seriously.
