Sneaky Saturday: Nelson Says He Will Support Health Bill, Become 60th Yes Vote

via Nelson Says He Will Support Health Bill, Become 60th Yes Vote –

Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska, the last holdout among Senate Democrats on legislation to overhaul the U.S. health-care system, said he will support the bill.

“The lives of millions of Americans will be improved,” Nelson said of the legislation during a news conference today. “Lives will be saved and our health-care system will once again reflect the better nature of our country.”

Senator Charles Schumer of New York earlier said Nelson decided late last night to back the legislation after meeting with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and White House aides. Reid unveiled the bill today.

Schumer said a final vote on the measure, the most sweeping overhaul of the nation’s health-care system in more than four decades, would come on Christmas Eve even if Republicans exhaust all their procedural rights to delay it.

What I don’t get is why Reid is waiting until Christmas Eve to “give” us this “gift” of $2T of our own money while slashing Medicare for our mothers and fathers in order to give Medicare to people who haven’t paid into the system.

Why not just go all the way in his dishonor of what it means to represent the people and just hold a midnight up-or-down vote.

And, it’s such a great idea that anyone who disagrees and tries to opt out of coverage, even as a matter of conscience against inter-generational theft and taxpayer-funded abortion, will be penalized with fines.

Like the $1 trillion measure passed Nov. 7 by the House, the Senate plan would require all Americans to get health coverage or pay a penalty. It would expand the Medicaid health program for the poor, set up online insurance-purchasing exchanges and provide subsidies for those who need help buying policies.

Senator John McCain made a good point when asked if Republicans planned to force the Senate to exhaust time reading the legislation on the floor.

“I don’t think it would be outrageous to ask for a bill to be read that we haven’t seen that affects one-seventh of our gross national product.”

Beyond the usual procedural and fiscal concerns, I have my own personal objections to this plan. I’ve withheld this kind of criticism because I didn’t want to be down on a fellow brother of the congregation.  But with this penalization method of forced compliance with public policy that steals from our children’s children and that is essentially a bailout of Planned Parenthood just as it’s beginning to lose its war on women and children, I have to draw my line in the sand.

You see, Harry Reid should know better.  Even though he doesn’t directly use his faith as a bludgeon to get his disastrous legislation passed, he also does it no good deed and a huge disservice. As a practicing member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he should know that forcing people to “obey Caesar” by throwing them in jail or fining them excessively just to keep them in line with his party’s pet project is a 180 degree departure from the concept of free agency that the Church holds so dear.  To me it sends the message that he doesn’t take the scriptures seriously, especially the oath of the priesthood he holds.

Here are the passages that come to mind when I consider the dangerous policies Reid is forcing on Americans (emphasis added):

LDS Doctrine & Covenants 121:39-46 (mostly in reference to the “majority” status being used to ram through legislation)

39 We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion.
40 Hence many are called, but few are chosen.
41 No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned; [as opposed to late night and Christmas Eve voting measures]
42 By kindness, and pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul without hypocrisy, and without guile

46 The Holy Ghost shall be thy constant companion, and thy scepter an unchanging scepter of righteousness and truth; and thy dominion shall be an everlasting dominion, and without compulsory means it shall flow unto thee forever and ever.

Doctrine & Covenants 93:31-39 (in reference to the abortion mandates, despite amendments to the contrary, that will benefit Planned Parenthood via loopholes)

31 Behold, here is the agency of man, and here is the condemnation of man; because that which was from the beginning is plainly manifest unto them, and they receive not the light.
32 And every man whose spirit receiveth not the light is under condemnation.
33 For man is spirit. The elements are eternal, and spirit and element, inseparably connected, receive a fulness of joy;
34 And when separated, man cannot receive a fulness of joy.
35 The elements are the tabernacle of God; yea, man is the tabernacle of God, even temples; and whatsoever temple is defiled, God shall destroy that temple. [respect the body God has given you…and others…or be destroyed]
36 The glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth.
37 Light and truth forsake that evil one.
38 Every spirit of man was innocent in the beginning; and God having redeemed man from the fall, men became again, in their infant state, innocent before God.
39 And that wicked one cometh and taketh away light and truth, through disobedience, from the children of men, and because of the tradition of their fathers. [Roe v. Wade is a type of tradition (precedent) but is not a law of the people, nor is it a law of God. It is quite contrary to God’s law of “be fruitful and multiply” and “thou shalt not kill“.]

And, finally:

Deuteronomy 30:15-19 (KJV) (again, in reference to abortion, but also applicable to rationing of care, and even eugenics to stem rising costs, when plenty could be made available via the free market)

15 ¶ See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;
16 In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.
17 But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;
18 I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it.
19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

As I may now be possibly found guilty according to this injunction of scripture, I’ll now hold my peace. I just wanted to point out that Harry Reid’s deplorable behavior in this legislative process is NOT indicative of LDS beliefs. Rather, it flies in the face of it in too many ways for me to quietly submit to what is going to happen.
