Willy Wonka on the Keynesians and Global Warming Alarmists

There’s no earthly way of knowing
Which direction they are going
There’s no knowing where they’re rowing
Or which way the river’s flowing

Is it raining, is it snowing?
Is a hurricane a-blowing?
Not a speck of light is showing
So the danger must be growing

Are the fires of Hell a-glowing?

Is the grisly Reaper mowing?
Yes! The danger must be growing
‘Cause the rowers keep on rowing
AND THEY’RE CERTAINLY NOT SHOWING
ANY SIGN THAT THEY ARE SLOWING!

So, how’s that global warming working out for you?

Based on NASA/GISS data going back to 1880:

  • The trend of annual mean temperatures since 1880 is warming of 0.59 degrees Celsius per century.
  • The trend over the last nine years (since 2002) is one of cooling.
  • There has been no statistically significant (at 95% confidence level) warming in 14 years (since 1997).
  • The trend in March temperatures for the last 12 years (since 2000) is one of cooling.
  • There has been no statistically significant warming in March for 17 years (since 1995).
  • March 2012 was the coolest March in 13 years (since 1999).

Similar observations can be drawn from Hadley Center data from the U.K., which goes back to 1850.

  • The trend of annual mean temperatures since 1850 is warming of 0.45 deg. C per century.
  • The trend over the last 13 years (since 1998) is one of cooling.
  • There has been no statistically significant warming in 16 years (since 1995).

In short, both temperature data sets (NASA and Hadley Center) show

  1. Minimal global warming over the last 130 to 160 years: about half a deg. C per century.
  2. No statistically significant global warming in the last 14 to 17 years.
  3. Global cooling in the last 9 to 13 years.

Taxing castles to redistribute sand…

Where the money comes from is beside the point to big-government Keynesians, who look out across the economic landscape and dream of smoothing out the sands.  They’re smart and know “real things” — so when their stimulus policies fail, they blame ambition and greed because, no matter how much monetary sand they add, they can’t control what beachgoers do with it.  Some dig holes, some build castles, but 99% of us spread it around more or less evenly.  This election year, we’re told, 1% hoard sand, doing the equivalent of hiding cash under their mattresses.  How un-American, according to Professor Obama, who told the United Auto Workers in February, “America’s not just looking out for yourself, it’s not just about greed, it’s not just about trying to climb to the very top and keep everybody else down.”

Rob:

April 22nd is coming. Do you know what that really means? If you don’t, and if you read nothing else today, please read this excellent article by Kevin DeAnna, and recently re-posted to Gds44’s blog.

Do you know why Earth Day is April 22?.

Clue: It didn’t start as celebration of butterflies, recycling and solar energy

By Kevin DeAnna

School children, businesses, clergy, politicians and even the United States military soon will honor the birthday of Vladimir Lenin, founder of the Soviet Union.

Of course, they will call it Earth Day.

Brian Sussman points out in his explosive new book, “Eco-Tyranny: How the Left’s Green Agenda will Dismantle America,” that the first nationwide Earth Day was held April 22, 1970, the 100th anniversary of the birth of the communist Bolshevik leader.

The “nationwide teach in” was spearheaded by Democratic Sen. Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin and college professor Paul Ehrlich.

Ehrlich had just written the “Population Bomb” in 1968, which famously – and falsely – predicted, “In the 1970s and 1980s hundreds of millions of people will starve to death in spite…

Obama: Gas Prices are High Because Climate Change Deniers Refuse to Tackle Global Warming

Obama: Gas Prices are High Because Climate Change Deniers Refuse to Tackle Global Warming.

Oh, but let us not forget the lessons of the very recent past!

March 2008Soros Invests $811 Million In Brazilian Oil

August 2009Obama Helps Soros Drill For Oil In Brazil

Then this happens:

and, “suddenly”, one year later…

March 2011 – Why is Brazilian Oil Giant Petrobras Pumping Oil Off America’s Gulf Coast?

It’s like Obama and Soros don’t even care that we can read their timeline for the destruction of America’s economic superiority and independence from foreign oil directly in the headlines of the news outlets.

So, what are you going to do about it?

Some on the right have criticized Obama for having no energy policy. This is wrong. Obama’s energy policy is working exactly the way it is designed. This administration knows that unless the price of fossil fuels skyrocket, expensive alternative energy sources, no matter how heavily subsidized, will continue to be unattractive to American consumers.

Obviously, this risky desire to have high gas prices is a punitive policy that foolishly ignores how Americans use petroleum. While oil is largely a transportation fuel, solar and wind can only contribute to our electricity demands. Oil accounts for less than 1% of our electricity demand.

The liberal fascination with developing expensive vehicles that run on electricity doesn’t change that: 1) Solar or wind powered vehicles don’t commercially exist; 2) The cars that do run on electricity, or even battery-powered hybrids still require gas; and 3) the high cost of the alternatively fueled vehicles makes them largely insignificant in the auto market and cost-prohibitive to the average consumer.

Sure, it would be ideal to have a national fleet of cars that are inexpensive and run on cheap and widely available alternative sources of energy. But the markets have demonstrated this reality is nowhere close to fruition. And when you try to hasten that reality by artificially jacking up the price of gas, the economic effects are felt largely by the poorest among us and disincentives business owners from hiring as their fixed operating costs increase.

Think about it, who feels the pain of an extra $1 at the gas pump? The rich guys that the left demonizes or the middle-to-low income wage earners who balance their budgets by the penny, not the dollar? If the only cars available on the market were $40,000 Chevy Volts, would a Lexus or BMW consumer be hit hard, or would the family looking for a barely affordable mode of shuttling their family be affected? Consumer Reports said Obama’s heralded Volt “is an expensive way to be green.”

The House GOP Forfeits The Strategic Advantage of Time – Page 2 – Hugh Hewitt – Townhall Conservative

Speaker Boehner is on Meet the Press getting chummy with David Gregory who is asking him about birthers and Eric Cantor is yukking it up with Wolf Blitzer but not one member of the House leadership made it to Phoenix this past weekend to attend the Tea Party Patriots Summit, which is the finest example of not dancing with the one that brung you I can recall.

The old House guard is stuck in 1995, fighting the Battle of Newt’s Hill, haunted by the casualties –even though the House was not lost then and the Clinton presidency was saved by Ross Perot and Bob Dole. The remnants of the GOP class of 1994 learned nothing, apparently, and forgot everything they should have remembered, including the part about shaping the political battlefield with specific proposals made far in advance of actual votes and demanding your opponents counter.

Like the dog that finally caught the ice cream truck it had been chasing all these years, the House GOP is perplexed and frozen, unwilling to declare what needs to be done.

Unwilling, it seems, to lead.

Perhaps Scott Walker, John Kasich and Chris Christie could spend a day with the House GOP and lay out for them what it takes, including a willingness to get into the fray and make the case even if 49% of the audience is booing.

I love it when Liberals talk dirty to me

Yup, this is what still, post-Tucson, passes for “civility” from the left. I don’t even have to say “I hope they keep it up so that they will continue to expose themselves as hypocrites.” That would be a logical tautology.
